Route company events to Slack channels, and let each person control their own DMs.
Synthelio posts to Slack in two independent ways: shared channels that a workspace admin configures for the whole company, and personal direct messages that each person controls for themselves.
Understanding that these are two separate systems will save you the most common piece of confusion here, which is someone turning off their personal notifications and then asking why they still see Synthelio messages in a team channel.
An admin installs the Synthelio Slack app once for the workspace. The settings panel then shows the workspace name, the connection date, the team and bot identifiers, and the scopes the app holds. Those scopes cover posting messages, sending direct messages, reading the channel list, and reading users along with their email addresses, which is how Synthelio people are matched to Slack accounts.
Disconnect removes the integration for the entire workspace, so it is not a way to stop your own notifications. If you want that, use your personal settings.
Three event types can be routed to channels, each to a channel of its own:
Each has a Test button, which is worth using before you announce the integration to the team. Posting a test message costs nothing and confirms the bot can actually write to that channel.
Two things are deliberately never posted to a channel. Time-off rejections and pending approval requests stay private, so only approved leave appears publicly. And timesheet notifications are always direct messages, never channel posts.
That is a design decision rather than a limitation. A channel announcing that someone's leave request was declined, or that three named people have not submitted their timesheets, creates a dynamic you do not want. Chasing timesheets is a conversation between a manager and a person, not a public list.
A private channel will not appear in the routing dropdown unless the Synthelio bot is already a member. To add it, go to the channel in Slack, type /invite @Synthelio, then use Refresh channels in Synthelio and the channel will show up.
Use Refresh channels any time you create a new channel and it is missing from the list.
Each person controls their own direct messages under User Settings, then Slack notifications.
Turn on Send my notifications as Slack DMs and Synthelio matches your account to your Slack user, showing the matched Slack identifier. If the match fails or you changed your email address, Re-check runs it again.
Then choose which categories you want: allocation changes, timesheet events, billing and milestones, and time-off requests. These are your notifications about things that concern you, delivered privately.
Personal settings only govern your direct messages. Company-wide notifications routed to shared channels are unaffected by anything you set here.
If a channel is too noisy for you, mute it in Slack. That is the right tool, and it is a decision you make for yourself rather than one that changes what the rest of the company sees.
A working default that avoids the two failure modes, which are a channel nobody reads and a channel that misses the thing that mattered:
Allocation changes belong in a channel your delivery leads watch. Allocation changes affect other people's plans, and a person moving off an engagement is something the rest of the team needs to know about without being told individually.
Billing and milestones belong wherever finance and delivery meet. A milestone marked ready to invoice is a piece of revenue waiting on somebody to act, and it is a common place for money to sit unbilled for weeks simply because the person who needed to know never found out.
Approved time off is genuinely useful in a team channel, because it answers who is out next week without anyone having to ask.
Why am I not receiving DMs? Check that the DM toggle is on and that your account matched to a Slack user. If matching failed, your Synthelio email address and your Slack email address probably differ. Fix the address, then use Re-check.
Can I turn off channel notifications for just myself? Mute the channel in Slack. Synthelio's personal settings do not affect channel posts.
Will my team see my time-off request before it is approved? No. Pending requests and rejections are never posted to a channel. Only approvals appear.
Can two event types share one channel? Yes, each event type is routed independently, so you can point several at the same channel.
